Arima Opto to nearly double LED chip capacity
Taiwan-based Arima Optoelectronics has decided to almost double its LED chip capacity in 2007, according to the Chinese-language Commercial Times.
The monthly capacity of Arima's AlGaInP (aluminum gallium indium phosphide) LED chips will increase to one billion units in 2007, from the current 600 million, while the capacity for blue LEDs will double to 400 million units, the paper cited company spokesman Chuang Yung-hui as saying.
Arima Opto is the world's number-two AlGaInP-LED chip supplier, second to fellow competitor Epistar, the paper noted. The two companies account for over half of the world's AlGaInP-LED chip capacity, the paper added.
