Alumage Advisors Reports 30-50% Price Reduction in LED High Bay Lighting
Alumage Advisors has released its latest product, LED High Bay Price Watch(TM), and is reporting a 30-50% year-to-year price reduction in LED high bay luminaires for industrial and architectural applications, between 2012 and YTD 2013.
“In the sweet spot of 10,000-20,000 lumens where LED products are replacing 250-400 Watt HIDs, we are seeing up to a 50% reduction in LED high bay pricing compared to last year, including ~18% from Q2 to Q3’13”, according to Mike Gagnon, President of Alumage Advisors.
“At 15,000 lumens, for example, the average price has decreased to just below $500. At the macro level, this is attributed to a number of factors such as price reductions and improved efficacy of LEDs, related advances in Chip-on-Board (CoB) technology, and a significant increase in the number and quality of lighting manufacturers from the U.S. and Asia competing in this space, to name a few”, Gagnon went on to say.
Having reviewed nearly 500 LED high bay products, Alumage Advisors is focusing its pricing analysis on differences between various classes of high bays such as dry vs. wet-rated products, modular vs. “point” products, North America vs. Asia products, etc. Price WatchTM is a family of pricing curves, including scatterplot data, published on a quarterly basis.
“With such a wide variation in product pricing at any particular lighting output level (such as $250-$1,000 at 15,000 lumens), it is important to classify products properly while encouraging end-users, lighting manufacturers and organizations such as Alumage Advisors to collaborate in bringing the right products to market”, according to Gagnon.
