IEEE Sustainable Smart Lighting World Conference 2026 Comes to Athens

Following the successful editions of the IEEE Sustainable Smart Lighting World Conference held in Eindhoven, Netherlands (LS2024), and Monastir, Tunisia (LS2025), the next edition — LS2026 — will take place in Athens, Greece, from December 2–4, 2026. Organized by IEEE Smart Lighting and the Hellenic Open University, the conference aims to create a highly interdisciplinary platform connecting lighting science, technology, architecture, sustainability, and human well-being.

Under the theme “Where Science, Design and Light Meet,” LS2026 will gather international experts from academia, research institutions, industry, and lighting practice to exchange ideas and showcase innovations across a broad spectrum of lighting disciplines. The conference program will include oral presentations, poster sessions, workshops, networking activities, and industry-focused events designed to foster collaboration between researchers and professionals.

The conference topics cover some of the most dynamic and relevant developments in the lighting industry today. Key areas include smart lighting systems, LEDs, optics, IoT integration, sustainability and energy efficiency, human-centric and biophilic lighting, chronobiology, lighting psychology, architectural and urban lighting design, lighting for cultural heritage, artificial intelligence in lighting controls, and the reduction of artificial light at night (ALAN). In addition, LS2026 will explore smart cities and smart buildings, adaptive lighting systems, data-driven optimization, and the interaction between light, emotion, and architecture.

A strong focus will also be placed on networking and industry engagement. Sponsors and exhibitors will have the opportunity to participate in several high-impact activities, including the “Lighting Futures” Career Day, international round-table discussions, workshops, and special sessions with leading lighting organizations and educators. A dedicated exhibition area will allow companies to present products, technologies, and innovations directly to an international audience of lighting professionals and decision-makers.

One of the highlights of LS2026 will be a special night lighting experience at an archaeological site in Athens, combining culture, lighting design, and technology in one of the world’s most historic environments. The conference aims not only to advance lighting science and innovation but also to strengthen the relationship between lighting, people, cities, and sustainability.

The organizers are currently inviting paper submissions, workshop proposals, and sponsorship participation. Key deadlines include June 15, 2026, for proposals of special sessions and workshops, and July 15, 2026, for two-page abstract submissions. Early sponsors confirming participation before March 31, 2026, are eligible for discounted sponsorship packages.

With its unique combination of scientific excellence, creative lighting design, sustainability, and smart technology, LS2026 is expected to become one of the leading global events in the lighting sector for 2026.
