Creating Next-Generation Smart Lighting

Empowered over Ethernet implemented a PoE lighting system using Denton DBI, dynamic CCT high bay fixtures and EnOcean wireless switches and sensors to enable individual fixture control, daylight harvesting and intuitive tablet management.

Empowered over Ethernet, a U.S.-based provider of Power over Ethernet (PoE) solutions, wanted to create a technology showcase that demonstrated what modern lighting can achieve.

The 20,000 ft² communal workspace required dynamic tunable white lighting, flexible zoning, seamless integration with abundant daylight, and intuitive control. These capabilities could not be achieved with traditional high-voltage lighting and controls.

PoE meets EnOcean for intelligent, wireless control

Empowered over Ethernet implemented a PoE lighting solution based on the Denton Digital Building Intelligence (DBI) platform and featuring innovative dynamic CCT high bay fixtures. EnOcean wireless wall switches and occupancy sensors added flexible, battery-free control without additional wiring, while tablets provided intuitive scene management and remote access. Together, the solution enables daylight harvesting, dynamic color temperature adjustment from 2700 K to 5000 K, and individual fixture control throughout the building.

Flexible spaces powered by wireless innovation

The combination of PoE infrastructure and EnOcean wireless technology created a highly adaptable lighting system that is easy to configure, manage, and expand. Individual fixture control, occupancy-based automation, scheduling via an astronomical time clock, and real-time system monitoring provide an exceptional user experience while demonstrating how wireless, low-voltage technologies can deliver smarter, more sustainable commercial buildings. The project achieved a return on investment in less than one year.
